Happy Valentine’s Day. You may not know it, but it is also National Pet Theft Awareness Day, which serves as a crucial reminder of the potential risks our beloved pets face and highlights the importance of taking proactive measures to keep them safe. Many of our customers are pet lovers, so our Valentine’s Day gift is to remind you of some ways to keep your furry friends safe!
Pet theft is a distressing and, unfortunately, common occurrence that can leave families devastated. This awareness date is observed on the 14th of February each year and was established to raise awareness about the rising incidents of pet theft and the devastating impact it has on both pets and their owners. This day encourages pet owners to take precautions, educate themselves about the risks, and spread awareness within their communities.
- Be extra vigilant
- Put a microchip in your pet if applicable
- Make sure your animals are securely behind locked fences and doors
- Always secure your home
- Get a GPS pet collar
- Do not leave pets unattended in a vehicle or out in public
- Report anyone suspicious in your neighborhood for this and other reasons
Pet theft is a distressing crime that affects countless families worldwide. Dogs, cats and other companion animals are often stolen for various reasons, including resale, breeding, dogfighting or even as bait animals. The American Kennel Club estimates that nearly two million pets are stolen each year in the United States alone. Sadly, only a fraction of these pets are ever reunited with their owners.
Stay vigilant, spread awareness and together, let’s work towards a world where pets are safe and secure. If you need help with your pet insurance needs, contact us at [email protected], call 800.258.4219 or visit us at trustpointservices.com.
